Unknown Visitor…

…anchored off the end of the pier. Probably seeking shelter from unsettled weather—thunderstorms sliding by just to the north (as usual).

Looks like a long distance traveler, maybe a Looper. I’ve decided to hold off on rolling out the cannon and firing a broadside.

Right now, two tree frogs chatting, one on my left and one on my right.

In other news, we had two visitors to the wood burning stove—bats—who were removed, though, unfortunately, a little too forcefully to insure their survival. Note to bats…we like you but please stay out of the stove.

Birds

Morning blue jay confab, wren making its home in garage lean-to, gangs of grackles, troupe of terns on the shoal at Gray Point, squad of little mergansers working as a team to drive minnows to shore for quick dinner. Now, loons calling.

Lively afternoon sail on Heliotrope, in gusty winds, with rail occasionally buried. Nice to have knowledgeable muscle on board. Check out Abby’s studio_bywater Instagram site.

Shadflies…

…somewhat prevalent on Heliotrope this morning as we set out on a breezy morning sail out past Gooseberry and around the bay. Beautiful weather, made better by yesterday’s rain.

Above, bull thistle, one of many mid-summer weeds/flowers in bloom. Below chicory and Queen Anne’s lace. Others not pictured, tansy, and even goldenrod.
